10 on the 10th: Fun Stuff I’m Loving That I Want to Share With You

It’s the 10th day of the month which means it’s time for 10 on the 10th with Meredith! This month I wanted to share 10 things that I’m loving that I think you might love, too!

1. Mer just Tweeted about a neat summer reading program that I want to do with my kids this summer.

Barnes and Noble has a Summer Reading program that allows your child to earn a free book when he or she reads eight books. You can get more information and download a Passport to Summer Reading here.

2. Speaking of books, how about a free audio book download?!

You can download The Hole in Our Gospel by Rich Stearns free at www.christianaudio.com this month. Use the coupon code MAY2010. This book just won the Christian Book of the Year award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Rich Stearns is the president of World Vision. The book is about his struggle to obey God and His command to fight poverty and injustice in the world. This book is on my “Want to Read” list so I downloaded it this morning in the hopes that maybe I can at least listen to it in the car until I have time to read the book.

3.  Happy Hour at Starbucks!

Participating Starbucks stores are offering half-price Frappuccinos from 3 until 5 p.m. until May 16th! Perfect for my every-afternoon-at-4-crash-and-burn feeling!

4. Speaking of  cold coffee beverages, K brought me a McCafe’ Caramel Frappe’ this weekend and may I just say, YUM!

And less expensive than a regular-price Frappucino, for sure!

5. Fake toenails.

I know, I know, but just listen to me. Last week at ballet I commented on my friend’s cute pedicure. I couldn’t believe me when she told me she bought them at Walgreens and glued them on her toes! But she did! So the next time I was in Walgreen’s I bought a box and tried them myself.  I was imagining those thick chunks of plastic that I used to superglue on my fingernails back in the 80s. These were surprisingly comfortable and they actually stayed on my toes! Several friends complimented me on my pedicure. I’m not one of those girls who can resist telling when I find a good bargain (You like my shirt? It was $3 at Walmart!), so of course I told my friends they were fake nails. And now I’m telling you.

I don’t think I’d wear them for weeks at a time but they’re great for special occasions when you want your toes to look cute but you don’t have the time or extra cash to spend on a pedicure!

6. Laura Geller’s Spackle (Under Makeup Primer)

This was in the Swag Bag I received at QVC’s Beauty Bash. I love it! It makes my makeup go on more smoothly and I’ve noticed that my makeup stays on longer without needing a touchup.

7. Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Natural Mascara

This is the only non-waterproof mascara I’ve ever used that didn’t make me look like a raccoon within hours of applying it. And it makes my lashes look especially long! Plus I have to give Tarte props (do people give props anymore?) for the cutest mascara container EVER!

8.  Tree Frog Creations!!

I’m from the South. We monogram things. It’s just what we do. My friend Renae has an Etsy store with the cutest little personalized whatever-you-wants! And I won a personalized  bag from her store last week. Now I just have to decide which one I want!

9. Friday Night Lights! The new season has FINALLY started!!

Coach Taylor, how I’ve missed you! I just know that your wife Tami and I would be BFFs!!

10. MercyMe’s newest CD!

I think the song “Move” is worth the price of the CD. Love. It.

Wait! I know I have 10 things on my list already, but I just thought of one more. The 3rd DVD in the What’s in the Bible series just went on sale.

I’m hopefully going to buy it at Lifeway this afternoon. This one covers Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Since I’ve stalled in my read-through-the-Bible program right smack dab in the middle of Deuteronomy, I’m hoping that Buck Denver and his friends can give me a push start to make it through the rest of the book! I can’t wait to see how Clive and Ian handle all the clean and unclean laws!

Go to http://www.lifeat7000feet.com to see more Lists of 10. I always enjoy seeing what creative list ideas others have. I hope the rest of your 10th is sTENsational, TENriffic, and enterTENing. And I promise I’ll try to never make up adjectives using the word “ten” again. It’s just too inTENse.

  1. Fake toenails? Now I’ve heard everything. I’ve got to run in Walgreens after I pick my middle-schoolers up. Maybe I’ll check out the fakies.

AMY, I LOVE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!!!! LOVE Eric and Tammy Taylor. Aren’t they just so cute? I love Glee a LOT but I love FNL more.

My kids have done the B&N program for several years now. Sadly, Will has outgrown it. He’ll be sad I’m sure, but he’ll try to act like it doesn’t matter.

I also love Mercy Me. And hey, I think I have some iTunes money! Also, I’m almost out of mascara so thinking I’ll give yours a try. Wonder if it’s next to the fake toenails at Walgreens.

    😉

  2. Thank you so much for posting that picture of Coach Eric Taylor.

And one more thing: I was reading my Ouachita Circle (get yours yet?) and noticed that Albany on QVC mentioned in the alumni news. I didn’t know she went to OBU. Cool!

  3. Love your toenails! I’m going to have to check those out at Walgreens! Thanks for including Tree Frog Creations in your top 10!

  4. Rebecca

The Hole in the Gospel is a great book! Our book club read it last month. Can’t wait to try some of the fun stuff on your list!

  5. Would you believe that I’ve never been to Starbucks?

Love, love, love McD’s caramel frappes. It’s kinda healthy if I don’t get the whipped cream and caramel drizzle, right?

hmmm…fake toenails…don’t know what to say about that…

I don’t use that brand of makeup primer, but I absolutely will not go without it. My makeup lasts all day, even after a workout!

Well, Melissa, I believe it because you told me it was true, but REALLY?! By choice or just never had the opportunity? Not that Starbucks will make you a better person or bring you long live, riches, or happiness, but you’ve never been to Starbucks? And I like the Laura Geller primer even better than Laura Mercier OR Smashbox!

  6. What a perfectly delightful post!!

  7. Oh, and I got your text today–about 20 hours after you sent it! Thank you!! Happy Mother’s Day to you too, friend!!

  8. This list made me so excited. Free books and half price coffee and a new mascara! My husband and I just watched the first episode of that show the other night and we both liked it!!!

    • whimzie

I started watching it either halfway through the first or during the second season. You should get the old seasons, too. A lot of the old cast is gone (since it’s a school that centers around a high school football team, I guess it makes sense that people have to graduate) so I think you jumped in at a good place to know what’s going on.

  9. Oh my land…so glad that Coach Taylor and Company are FINALLY back on the air. It was a horribly long spell of lame-o Friday evening television without you, FNL.

    • whimzie

I’m loving that so many of you are Friday Night Lights fans! I was getting worried because I read somewhere that they had low ratings for the season premiere. I think they only have one season planned after this one anyway, but I don’t want them to cancel the show before I get to see that last season!!

  10. What a fun, fabulous list 🙂 I don’t know if I can do fake toenails . . . but free books and half-price frappuccinos? That I can do.

  11. Oh how I wish there was a Starbucks in my town! I’d be at happy hour everyday for half-price frappuccinos!

I’ve never watched Friday Night Lights b/c my hubby is from West Texas and he hated the movie, but maybe the show is better. I did watch The Good Wife the other day and liked it. Not sure what that means!

  12. Too funny about the toes….I’ve tried them….and truth be told, I ran out of time to get a manicure before work and now I’ve got the $4.99 Broadway nails on my fingers too! Let’s just hope one doesn’t pop off while I’m working!!!

  13. Amy

We never timed the happy frappy time last week while on vacation, but I’m determined to partake this week! I’m particularly excited because I can get a decaf version now!! The Mocha Frappe is also yummy.

QVC Beauty Bash swag bag? Bestill my heart. I couldn’t help but think of you when I stopped in the QVC outlet. Please tell me you got some philosophy goodies, too!

  14. I just LOVE this list. I love starbucks. I love that that face stuff is called spackle. I love the summer reading program. I love christianaudio.com. I love that you wear fake toenails…

    🙂

  15. carpoolqueen

Thanks for being a phone-a-friend today. They didn’t have the spackle, but I got the Stila stuff. I’ll let you know how it works.

  16. I wrote my post today (about the Frappuccinos) and then read this post. Great minds think alike!

    FAKE toenails? I love you.
I am super self-conscious about my toenails because they are the size of a neutron. Now I can have normal size nails for summer. Contented sigh.
